Over the years, “Veronica Mars” creator Rob Thomas has been confused for Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas many times — and it all culminated in a cringeworthy incident in 2015.
“I got forwarded this invitation to join the Creative Coalition to go to Washington, DC, and lobby for arts and education,” the writer told Page Six at the ATX TV Festival, adding that part of the trip would include an invite to the exclusive White House Correspondents’ Dinner. “I was thrilled, I had always wanted to go to that.”
Thomas went on to explain that he had to reschedule a golf trip with his buddies and even dropped $3,500 on a new suit for the occasion.
“About a week before we’re supposed to leave on this, I saw a press release [for the event] went out … I’m reading the list [of attendees], and it says, ‘Rob Thomas, Lead Singer of Matchbox Twenty.’ The first thought in my mind was, ‘I’m finally gonna get to meet him!’ And then my second thought is, ‘Oh, maybe somebody … had gotten it wrong,’ because I knew it was me.”
