First-year collegians Aurelia Leonard and Connor Tasselmyer each won three individual events to headline a strong day for the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team as the Golden Knights swept Oswego State on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights’ women won 186-83 over the Lakers, while the men won 182-100. Clarkson will host its lone meet of the 2022-23 season next Saturday against St. Michael’s.
Freshman Aurelia Leonard won three individual starts, taking the top spot in the 100 butterfly (1:03.18), 100 backstroke (1:02.31), and 50 butterfly (28.05), and later helped the 200 freestyle relay team, which also included Ava Lamontagne, Gabriela McSwieney, and Bella Triolet, with a time of 1:46.83. McSwieney also picked up a pair of wins in the distance freestyle races, winning the 1000 freestyle in 11:33.40 and later the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:35.41. Claudia Scala also won the 50 backstroke (30.53) and Bella Triolet took the 100 freestyle (58.00) as other first-place finishers for the Golden Knights. Paige Cutler also had the top scores in the 1-meter dive (147.45) and 3-meter dive (138.20).
On the men’s side, Connor Tasselmyer also won three events, hitting the pad first in the 200 freestyle (1:53.86), 50 breaststroke (29.74), and 100 freestyle (49.45). Tasselmyer also served as the closer on the winning 200 medley relay where the Knights won in 1:44.34, teaming with Aiden Howard, Landon Colby, and Michael Schroeder for the victory.
