Disney announces 3 new ‘Star Wars’ films


“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” will not be the war to end all “Wars.”

Disney announced on Tuesday that after this final chapter in the latest trilogy is released on Dec. 20, three more “Star Wars” films will hit theaters every other year starting in 2022. The studio did not make clear if those movies will be new episodes continuing the Luke Skywalker and Rey saga, or if they will be “A Star Wars Story” offshoots such as “Rogue One” and “Solo.”

Audiences will also soon return to the planet Pandora — finally.

Disney announced the release dates of the four sequels to James Cameron’s 2009 science fiction epic. The yet-untitled “Avatar 2” will hit theaters the weekend before Christmas 2021, and the three follow-ups will be released every other year at that same time.

Cameron, a director who notoriously goes over schedule and over budget, has delayed his movie several times already. It was initially supposed to come out in 2014.
