Discovery Channel may have taken a subtle dig at Trump


Does someone at Discovery TV hate President Trump?

This’ll please you or enrage you depending on what you think of the president.

For the record, Trump often annoys the hell out of me and embarrasses me like nobody else can. Then again, I do find myself loving the guy for being the klutzy, anti-politician who is trying to keep his campaign promises by shaking up Washington and the world — even when, as often happens, I disagree with the policies he is proposing.

And since I’ve known him for 30 years and predicted early on that he’d beat Hillary Clinton in the election, I have had plenty of time to form my opinions.

My point: I’m giving you this next piece of information as a journalist free of a political agenda who criticizes or congratulates the guy on a case-by-case basis.

So, here goes my story about Discovery.

I was watching the American Heroes Channel the other day, which is owned by Discovery, when a hilarious commercial comes on about something called the Trumpy Bear.

At first I thought it was a joke. But it wasn’t.

The TV commercial shows people adoring the stuffed bear that has a blond comb-over top and a red tie. A firehouse full of firefighters even claims that Trumpy Bear has replaced its Dalmatian as their mascot, and there’s an adoring long-haul trucker driving with the bear on his lap.

Trumpy Bear can be yours for “just two easy payments” of $19.95, plus shipping and handling. And, of course, supplies are limited — to the number of people who will go buy it.
