April showers bring … well, a host of hot new shows.

Gone are the days when May was just the lull between spring and summer TV seasons, a time for reruns and one-off specials. From murder mysteries to comedies, here’s what to look out for next month.

“Dancing With the Stars: Athletes”
April 30, 8 p.m., ABC

Technically the show starts at the end of April, but with the controversial Tonya Harding and the irreverent Adam Rippon as the high-profile contestants, there’s bound to be drama that will dominate May watercooler buzz.

May 6, 8 p.m., Starz

Based on the bestselling 2016 novel of the same name, this half-hour drama follows a young New York transplant as she lands a job in a glamorous restaurant and discovers what goes on behind the scenes in the world of fine dining.

Netflix, May 10

Created by bestselling crime writer Harlan Coban, “Safe” marks Michael C. Hall’s big return to TV post-“Dexter.” In the fast-paced thriller, Hall plays a British widower whose oldest daughter goes missing, exposing dark secrets in their idyllic community.

“Patrick Melrose”
May 12 , 9 p.m., Showtime

Emmy-winner Benedict Cumberbatch (“Sherlock”) stars as an upper-class British playboy with a troubled past and substance abuse problems. The five-episode limited series is likely to get awards buzz. It’s based on the novels by Edward St. Aubyn.

“Little Women”
May 13, 8 p.m., PBS

The latest incarnation of the classic Loiusa May Alcott story boasts an all-star cast including Angela Lansbury and Michael Gambon.
